Due to the popularity of Japanese anime and games and the voice actors who provide the voices for these characters, it is a very welcome phenomenon that an increasing number of foreign users are learning Japanese by watching them in Japanese with subtitles in place!
However, the language barrier may still be a high hurdle for users.

On the other hand, the number of aspiring voice actors in Japan is increasing and the number of people making voice acting their profession is expanding.
As a result, the number of voice actors who can speak English is also increasing. There is a strong possibility that more and more content will be dubbed in English by Japanese voice actors, utilizing the acting skills and know-how they have cultivated in the Japanese voice acting industry.
Considering this needs for English dubbing, we researched voice actors who are fluent in English.

The Expansion of Voice Actors with English Skills

A survey of voice actors belonging to voice actor agencies revealed that more than 100 of them list “English” or “English Conversation” in the hobbies and special skills section of their profiles.
Some of the productions also introduced site search tools that allow users to search by language. This indicates that the importance of English skills is recognized in the Japanese voice-over industry as well.

Pick up advanced English skill acquisition!

Voice actors’ English skills are diverse, depending on their acquisition process and experience. Personal backgrounds, such as country of origin and study abroad destination, give pronunciation and accent unique characteristics, so it is difficult to judge simply by saying they have English language skills.
Therefore, for this article, we decided to focus on voice actors with particularly advanced English skills.
Specifically, we will focus on those who meet the following criteria

・Above 900 TOEIC score
・Interpreter level English skills
