With this system, you can attend a vocational school for voice actors without having to worry about finances.

What is the Newspaper Scholarship Program?

The Newspaper Scholarship Program is a great support program offered by various newspaper companies. Students receive an interest-free loan for a large portion of their tuition, and they also earn a living stipend by doing newspaper delivery work. This allows you to reduce your financial burden while still having time to pursue your dreams.

• Financial Support: You do not need to worry about your finances as you will receive approximately 1,000,000 yen* per year for tuition and fees!
  *The excess amount may have to be paid upon graduation or at other times. Please check each scholarship association’s website for details on the amount.
• Housing: We provide a fully private room and meal support so that you can concentrate on your studies with peace of mind.
• Salary: You will be paid a stipend from your delivery work to cover your living expenses, so you don’t have to worry about being overloaded with part-time work.
• Professional skill acquisition: Students can improve their skills efficiently by balancing their studies and work.

Daily Time Schedule of a Newspaper Scholar

A day as a newspaper scholar starts at midnight rather than early in the morning. You deliver newspapers until the sun rises! After that, it is time for classes, practice, and independent practice at school. In the evening, it is back to delivery duties.
This is a hard schedule, but the key to success is the attitude and will to work hard toward your dreams.
This is my time schedule when I was attending a vocational school.

Morning newspaper delivery

• 2:30 AM: Wake up
  Early in the morning, when it is still dark, we get up and get ready. Most scholars are lightly nourished and ready for delivery.
• 3:00 AM: Arrive for work
  Go to the dealer’s work area and begin preparing for delivery upon the arrival of the truck carrying the morning paper. Fold flyer ads set up the day before into the newspaper.
  On rainy or snowy days, plastic wrapping is used, so it takes longer to prepare and distribute.
• 3:30 AM: Morning paper delivery begins
  Load newspapers onto bicycles or motorcycles and depart for the delivery area. The delivery time is about 300 to 400 copies, and it usually takes 2.5 to 3 hours.
  The delivery is not done by looking at a map, but by relying on a route book. We distribute based on the route signs. Once you get used to it, you will be able to deliver without looking at the map.
• 6:00 AM: Morning paper delivery is complete.
  After the delivery is complete, we return to the store to clean up and prepare for the next day’s work.
• 6:30 AM: Breakfast, school preparation, and handling delivery errors
  We will have breakfast, either by cooking for ourselves or eating out. After that, we often make good use of the time before school classes to do self-study or work on assignments. However, if we receive a phone call about a delivery error, “non-delivery,” we need to ride our bicycles or motorcycles to deliver them again.

School

• 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM: School
  Students will take classes at school. Many scholars take more classes in the morning, so they can make the most of their afternoon.
• 2:00 PM: After school, go home
  After classes are over, students return home promptly to prepare for the evening delivery.
  If the school curriculum runs until after 2:00 PM, students will be dismissed early.

Evening newspaper delivery

• 3:30 PM: Evening paper delivery begins.
  Evening paper delivery begins. This is the time when the city comes alive and you will have more opportunities to greet your subscribers.
• 5:30 PM: Completion of evening paper delivery
  After completing the delivery of the evening paper, which takes about one and a half hours, we return to the sales office. Preparations for the next day are also made.

Evening

• 6:00 PM- 9:00 PM: Dinner and free time
  Relax over dinner and socialize with fellow Scholars.
  We also use this time to study, work on assignments, read, or do hobbies.
  Some returned to school here to work on their studies.
• 9:00 PM: Prepare for bed
  Students go to bed in preparation for an early start the next day. It is ideal to go to bed at this time. However, it is not always easy to get a good night’s sleep.

With this kind of schedule, newspaper scholarship students balance their studies and work.
There is a physical burden of waking up early and getting up early, but this will give you valuable experience that will help you get closer to your dreams.
Basically, the most lasting memory I have is that I slept every day.
